What you will need

About this award

Carleton lists several entrance awards for students entering in Fall 2027. Some are automatic if your admission average is 85% or better and you are entering from high school or CEGEP for the first time. Others require an application, a letter of reference, an audition, or program-specific eligibility. The Prestige Scholarship looks at an admission average of 90% or better, an application, a letter of reference, and a range of community or secondary school extracurricular activities. The main renewable entrance scholarships for a four-year honours degree pay $1,000, $2,000, or $3,000 each year, for a maximum of $4,000, $8,000, or $12,000 over four years. BScN students in the 3 year compressed Honours degree may receive fall/winter payments and summer-semester payments, with maximums of $4,000, $8,000, or $12,000 over three years. The President’s Welcome Award for international students pays $2,000 to $5,000 in first year and is for international students entering directly from high school and paying international student fees. Many awards are decided from the grades your high school submitted before you applied; the page says those automatic offers are not reassessed on final high school grades. Named awards use academic standing, activities, program, citizenship, region, or audition results. Renewal, when offered, requires meeting the stated GPA and enrolment conditions.

Who qualifies

You qualify for the automatic renewable entrance scholarships if you are admitted to Carleton with an admission average of 85% or better, are entering in fall, are entering for the first time from high school or CEGEP, and have no previous attendance at post-secondary educational institutions. For international high school students, you also need to meet language requirements. If you are a college or university transfer student, the page says you are considered for general in-course scholarships after one full academic year as a full-time student at Carleton, not for those entrance scholarships. For the BScN entrance scholarship, you must be admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing with an admission average of 85% or better and meet the same fall-entry and first-entry conditions. For named awards, you must also meet the stated condition: an admission average of 90% or better for the Prestige Scholarship and David Muir Entrance Scholarship; entering an eligible Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering program and pursuing post-secondary studies for the first time for David Muir; being a child of a Carleton University alumnus for the Buss Family Scholarship; participating in the Mini-Courses Program before entering first year for the MCP Award; being in a College of the Humanities program and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person) for the Joho Scholarship; entering a full-time Bachelor of Engineering program for the Biggs Scholarship; being a graduate of, or currently enrolled in, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board ICP Program for the ICP Award; being an international student entering the Bachelor of Architectural Studies and previously attending high school in Hong Kong or China for the Law Entrance Scholarship; entering the Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management and being from one of the five listed regions for the Kroeger scholarships; being in the House of Commons Page program; entering the Bachelor of Music (Honours) and having exceptional audition results; or entering a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Sciences for the W.H. Collins Entrance Scholarships.
