About this award

The University of Windsor offers automatic Open Entrance scholarships and a range of application-based awards (academic, financial-need, leadership, community involvement) for students coming directly from full-time secondary school. You complete a single UWinAward application profile with basic details, and for selected awards you add written responses and references. The application opens January 1 and most entrance awards have a deadline of April 30. You do not need an offer of admission to apply. The automatic Open Entrance program pays based on your 12O admission average: $1,000 one-time (Blue and Gold, 85 to 89.99%), $10,000 renewable over 8 terms at $1,250 per term (Dean's, 90 to 94.99%), or $16,000 renewable over 8 terms at $2,000 per term (President's, 95 to 100%). Separate application-based awards include the $1,000 SHSM Scholarship. Skills Competition Scholarships can be received in addition to an open entrance scholarship or any other award. Automatic awards are decided on your best six final and interim Grade 12 U/M-level qualifying courses (or equivalent) available in May or CEGEP courses. Application-based awards are assessed on academic record, financial need, community involvement, leadership, or a combination, using your written responses and references.

Who qualifies

You are a Domestic student entering directly from full-time secondary school into a first-year undergraduate program at the University of Windsor. For the automatic Open Entrance program (effective 2026-27), you must have no previous attendance at post-secondary educational institutions, and you must register full-time in the academic year immediately following your high school graduation. Your 12O admission average is calculated from your top six Grade 12 U/M-level courses; Co-op courses are excluded. For application-based awards you enter in September directly from high school; an offer of admission is not required to apply. For the SHSM Scholarship you must have completed the Specialist High Skills Major Program and hold an entering 12O average of 80% or greater.

Activate your UWIN ID early so you can access the Applicant Home Page in UWinsite Student and start your UWinAward profile as soon as January 1.

There is no limit on the number of awards you can apply for, but follow the multiple-submission instructions so earlier entries are not overwritten.

Begin drafting your 'Tell Us Your Story' answers well before the April 30 deadline: describe your passions, leadership roles, achievements, community contributions, and how your educational goals could make an impact.

Reach out to references (teachers, employers, community contacts) early, give them a summary of your activities, and check in before the deadline.

If you submitted a late OUAC application for a Winter start, contact the awards office because you may not appear in their system as entering directly from high school.

For the SHSM Scholarship, upload your OSSD transcript with red seal between August 1 and September 15.
