What you will need

About this award

You receive $30,400 for your first year of study. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. If you meet the renewal rules, you can get $22,700 in both your second and third years. This is for you if you are an exceptional student moving from a distant home or an international location to study engineering in Calgary. No deadline is posted publicly — before you start the application, check University of Calgary's program page or call their office to confirm when applications open and close this year. Selection criteria aren't published — ask University of Calgary how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask University of Calgary during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this scholarship in your second and third years, you must stay enrolled in the Schulich School of Engineering and achieve a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average — the average of all your final grades) of 3.00 on a minimum of 30.00 units in the previous fall and winter terms.

Who qualifies

You must be an undergraduate student entering your first year in the Schulich School of Engineering. You can be a Canadian citizen or an international student. To qualify, your permanent home address and the high school from which you graduate must be located at least 100 kilometres outside the Calgary city centre. The provider looks for exceptional academic merit.
