What you will need

About this award

You can receive up to $44,000 for a 4-year undergraduate degree or up to $22,000 for a 2-year college diploma or certificate. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Along with the money, you get access to a Student Success Program, peer support groups, mentors, and paid internship opportunities during the summer. This is for you if you are a resilient high-school graduate who has faced financial adversity and needs wrap-around support to rise above your circumstances. Applications typically open in November and close in December, with the final cohort announced in May. Applications for Cohort 2026 have closed. Check the Beedie Luminaries program page or call their office to confirm when the next window opens. A selection committee evaluates applications between January and April. Some of you may be invited for interviews before the final winners are chosen. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Beedie Luminaries how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Beedie Luminaries during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Beedie Luminaries whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected person in Canada (which includes those with refugee status) residing in British Columbia. You must currently be in Grade 12 and have a minimum grade average of 75% in the most recently completed school year. You also need to plan to be a full-time student, apply to one of the eligible post-secondary institutions, and demonstrate how financial adversity has affected you or your family.
