What you will need

About this award

You are looking at an in-program, non-renewable Dalhousie University graduate scholarship for Master's students in the Faculty of Science. It is for work in marine sciences in the Department of Oceanography, Department of Biology, or the Marine Affairs Program. The fund was established in 2024 in memory of Michael Albert Garron. The value is based on the annual spending allocation, and you will be told the approximate value in the annual call for nominations. The expectation is that the full annual spending allocation will be used each year, awarding as many high value scholarships as possible. You are considered through a nomination from your department, school, or program. A selection committee from the Faculty of Science reviews the nominations. The call for nominations and selection usually occurs during the fall semester. You must meet the stated deadline.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian student enrolled in a Master's degree program offered through Dalhousie's Faculty of Science in the Department of Oceanography, Department of Biology, or Marine Affairs Program. You must be pursuing studies related to marine sciences including, but not limited to, oceanography, marine affairs, and marine biology. You must be in good academic standing. You should normally have no more than 24 months of study in the enrolled graduate program. You can receive the scholarship only once per degree. There is a preference for students from the Maritimes, particularly those self-identified as Mi'kmaw and/or African Nova Scotian ancestry.
