About this award

This Faculty of Engineering page covers several graduate awards. Merit Scholarships are offered for master's and doctoral students. You do not have to apply; you are automatically considered at admission. If selected, a scholarship offer comes with your offer of admission, and the amount and duration are variable. Admission Scholarships are also automatic. For an eligible master's with thesis program, the admission scholarship is $7,500, paid as $2,500 per term for the first three consecutive terms. For a doctoral program, the admission scholarship is at least $72,000 for four years. It has a first component of $9,000 per year, paid as $3,000 per term for the first 12 consecutive terms, and a second component of at least $9,000 per year for four years offered by your academic unit. The International Doctoral Scholarship is worth $45,000 over five years for full-time international doctoral students admitted in May 2023 or later. It is paid at up to $3,000 per term for 15 consecutive terms, and it is only granted if you pay international tuition fees. Who qualifies

You can check yourself using program, status, admission average, and enrollment. Merit Scholarships are open to master's and doctoral students, but not to students enrolled in a Master of Engineering program, a microprogram, or a graduate diploma program. For the master's thesis Admission Scholarship, you need to be admitted to an eligible master's with thesis program, be a Canadian student, permanent resident, protected person, or member of the diplomatic corps, have an admission average of 8.0/10 or higher, and enrol full-time for three consecutive terms. You are not eligible if you are in a Master of Engineering (MEng) or the Master of Engineering Management program. For the doctoral Admission Scholarship, you need to be admitted to a doctoral program, be a Canadian student, permanent resident, protected person, member of the diplomatic corps, or an international student, have an admission average 8.0/10 or higher, and enrol full-time without interruption for 12 consecutive terms. For the International Doctoral Scholarship, you need to be a full-time international doctoral student, be admitted in May 2023 or later, and pay international tuition fees.

For the automatic merit and admission scholarships, you do not have to apply, so the practical focus is on your admission average, program eligibility, and full-time enrollment.

Check whether your program is excluded before assuming you qualify.

If you have external funding, note that the first component of the Admission Scholarship still applies, but your academic unit or other internal funding source may reduce the second component while your external scholarship is valid.

For doctoral students, contact your academic unit for details on assistantships or internal scholarships.

For the International Doctoral Scholarship, keep the May 2023 or later admission date, international tuition fee condition, and the no-combination note with the Differential Tuition Fee Waiver or the Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship in mind.
