About this award

You can receive up to $10,000 per year, with a maximum total of $40,000. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a young Canadian with a disability who is determined to overcome barriers and pursue a career through higher education. Applications are now closed. Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident under 30 years old as of May 15, 2026. You must have a disability, which the foundation defines as a functional limitation (permanent or episodic) that restricts your full and equal participation when you face barriers. You must be enrolling full-time in a 1- to 4-year post-secondary program at a publicly funded institution in Canada and be eligible for domestic tuition. Additionally, you cannot receive other financial awards totaling more than $2,500 per year, though student loans do not count toward this limit. You cannot apply if you are an employee, volunteer, or board member of the RHF (Rick Hansen Foundation), or if you are a spouse or child of someone in those roles. Previous winners are not eligible to apply again.
